Hot Copy: The Top Ten BDSM Books

Like it or not, one the of top ten BDSM books sold in this country is from none other E.L. James. I hate saying it, but she put sadomasochism on the world stage by sparking both controversy and conversation. Placing all the ethical issues and literary prose aside, 50 Shades was the tipping point for a lot of other BDSM books. Her series opened a lot of people up to the idea of exploring sexuality in different ways. Couples all over the world weren’t just buying into the book’s premise, but they were also buying other BDSM books with more substance.

The unfortunate thing about 50 Shades, however; is it is a terrible representation of the BDSM lifestyle. Although some couples use the book as a blueprint for kink exploration, the underlying problem is how the plot characterizes overall BDSM relationships. The important thing we all have to remember is 50 Shades is not a handbook or how-to manual—it is a fictional account of someone’s fantasy.

Before E.L. James, there was another dirty minded author, A.N.Roquelaure. For those who are unfamiliar, you will also know her as Anne Rice. The famed author of the original vampire books, Anne Rice spins a thrilling and erotic tale of a classic heroine named Beauty. Roquelaure takes readers on a spectacular journey of sexual desire and lust. Her cast of characters weaves a complex web of intrigue and sexual depravity. Highly erotic, this BDSM book trilogy offers a plethora of spank bank material.
